Katie Linehan, Founder

Katie Linehan brings 16 years of experience in K–12 education, public policy, and advocacy. Her career has included serving as a classroom teacher, working in the Nebraska Legislature, leading education organizations, advising policymakers and education leaders on complex issues affecting students and schools, and working directly with families to identify solutions when a school was not meeting their child's needs.

Katie founded Compass School Support to help families navigate public school systems that can feel complicated and intimidating. She helps parents understand school policies and procedures, organize concerns, prepare for important meetings, and determine practical next steps when something is not working for their child.

Katie holds a J.D. from the University of Nebraska College of Law and a bachelor's degree from Loyola University New Orleans. She brings both an educator's perspective and a deep understanding of how education systems, policies, and decision-making processes work.

Her approach is straightforward: parents know their children best. Compass School Support helps them better understand the system so they can ask the right questions, communicate effectively, and advocate with confidence.

What guides our work

Family-centered

We start with your child and your priorities. Every plan is built around what matters most to your family.

Clear & practical

We translate confusing school jargon and policies into plain language and concrete next steps.

Collaborative

We believe the strongest outcomes come from prepared, confident parents working effectively with schools.

Clear boundaries

We are education consultants and advocates. When a situation calls for legal representation, we encourage families to consult an attorney.

How we work with families

Compass School Support is an educational consulting and family advocacy practice. We help parents and guardians understand school policies and procedures, understand applicable rules, organize concerns and communications, prepare for meetings, and determine practical next steps. Support may include individual consultations, document review, meeting preparation, help organizing concerns and communications, and ongoing support as families work through a school issue.

Compass School Support is a consulting company, not a law firm. We do not provide legal advice or legal representation, and no attorney-client relationship is created by working with us. When a situation calls for legal representation, we encourage families to consult a qualified education attorney.
